Events at Sea by Island Cruises

The events listed have been reported in the public domain or to cruisejunkie by passengers or crew members onboard.  The list is by no means comprehensive.  For that reason it is necessary to be cautious in drawing conclusions from the potentially limited data.  Keep in mind that some companies may be more transparent than others about things that go wrong; conversely, some companies may be better at concealing events and thereby project an appearance that is inaccurate.  With that said, the following list is still interesting, as are the patterns seen viewed separately by ship.

Island Star
A Brazilian newspaper reports (precise date unclear) the ship was adrift for 9 hours and without onboard power for 6 hours in an area between Sao Paulo and Rio. Repairs were made (there was apparently water mixed with fuel) and the ship went on its way.

Island Star
The cruise was cancelled after engines failed off the coast of France, plunging the ship into darkness.  Passengers were ferried to shore by the ship's tenders.  The ship first experienced problems as it left Genoa -- emergency repairs were apparently not enough.  The following cruise, scheduled to leave from Palma on September 29 was cancelled in order to accommodate repairs.

Island Escape
A 52-year old woman traveling with her former husband went missing while the ship was between Sicily and Naples.  She went to get a cup of tea at about 1AM and never returned to the cabin -- a search proved unsuccessful, however her body  washed ashore in Calabia in southwest Italy on May 27.   More info here and here Passenger
